The Objective
A complete renewal of the OPG Darlington Nuclear Generating Station’s sewer and watermain systems. This was a complete replacement in which the existing wastewater treatment plant was removed and replaced with new pumping stations.
Challenges
There were a number of challenges on this project. Excavation work at a nuclear facility has the potential to impact the reactors, it’s therefore imperative to operate with a heightened level of awareness. We were tasked with adhering not only to our own high standards of Health & Safety but the province’s nuclear standards as well.
The Result
The project was identified as a Chief Nuclear Officer (CNO) milestone and despite numerous design changes throughout the course of work, was completed on time.
